Golf and restaurant near Avranches

We will be staying for a week at Avranches with my Welsh in-laws who are in their 70%26#39;s but still very active.

They play golf every day so was wondering if anyone could recommend a superior course near Avranches and also any %26quot;hidden gem%26quot; restaurants that we may be able to treat them to a great meal.

One other question guys....we will have our 14 year old son with us and as he is in the army cadets, he is very interested in the Normandy beach tours etc.

R these far from Avranches or should we make a special overnite trip of it.

Thanks for help guys...would be lost without advice from these forums.

Well I don%26#39;t play golf, so I can%26#39;t advise on the superiority of courses, but you could start here:

As this is your local club, why not play your first round there and ask other players for their recommendations? I don%26#39;t know how good your French is, but if you navigate the site, you will find %26quot;Golfs aux alentours%26quot; (other golf courses in the area). Looking at the list, I immediately made a connection with your other requirement:

Now, as I said, I%26#39;m not a golfer, but two different courses, and one overlooking Omaha Beach ... .

In terms of ease of travel, you are the wrong side of the Cherbourg peninsula to see the landing beaches, but it%26#39;s do-able as a day trip. You might want to put yourselves up near Bayeaux for the night, to give yourselves more time to see the Tapestry, the excellent Memorial (Peace Museum) in Caen and also tour the beaches, without returning to base every evening, although there are a few interesting places to stop on the way.

Villedieu les Poêles is not bad place to break the journey:

I%26#39;m not a golfer either but friends of ours who are say that Omaha is very good but quite expensive. There is also Agen-Countainville, just up the coast from Avranches, which is supposed to be pretty good.

You won%26#39;t need to do an overnight to visit the D-Day beaches. The American ones will only be about an hour%26#39;s drive from Avranches, the British and Canadian a little further along the coast but all still easily do-able in a day trip (or two).
