menton to san remo

Hi All,

Any suggestions other than car hire to get from menton(france) to san remo(italy)???

Trains every 30 minutes from Menton to Ventimiglia. €2.60, 12 minutes. http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

Trains approximately hourly from Ventimiglia to San Remo €1.90 on the slow trains, 15 minutes www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html for times up to June 12, shouldn%26#39;t change much afterwards.

Or bus from Ventimiglia every 15 minutes, 40 minutes.

And don%26#39;t buy through tickets in Menton unless you don%26#39;t mind paying higher fares. That%26#39;s only definitely worth doing if you are taking one of the two direct trains a day, for example the 10.28 which gets to San Remo in 45 minutes and costs €8 - as you have to have a reserved seat on these trains so cannot use an ordinary ticket.

Thanks for that perilizia.Very useful information....

Do you think it necessary to book tickets??

No point at all in buying tickets in advance. These are local trains. There are no seat reservations, tickets can be used on any train, and tickets cannot sell out.

thanks nick....

If you are taking a direct train it may be worth buying tickets a little beforehand in case there is a queue at the booking office when you arrive - as for these trains only you must have a reservation (included in your ticket price)

For the rest, as Nick says. You can buy these in ticket machines if you want (in France if you have basic French, in Italy in English).
