May 09 - first time paris x 7 days

Is 7 days enough to soak in Paris or does anyone suggest a day trip to Barcelona??

|||

Barcelona%26#39;s pretty far for a day trip.. unless you%26#39;re going to fly there...

Most people here would agree that 7 days is barely enough for Paris alone.

|||

I%26#39;d venture to say that a day trip to Barcelona is impossible unless you consider spending a few moments on the ground there before you board the plane for your return to Paris. By train or plane, travel to Barcelona will consume most/all of a day, and the same on the way back.

Barcelona requires it%26#39;s own special journey. There%26#39;s no way to even get the tiniest taste of the city in a few hours. A week, minimum IMO.

Hi Lauren. I agree that you should stick to Paris. There is so much to see and do there, enough for many trips. We too want to go to Barcelona someday, but as a seperate trip.

|||

Thank you! That seems to be the consensus!

|||

aaaah, awesome.. a spain trip will be in the making soon! :)

|||

So we%26#39;re staying in Paris instead! I%26#39;m really excited.. How does a day trip to Versailles sound? I heard RER to get there, 2 days enough?

What do I wear? Weather.com says that temperatures will range from 40s-70s.. I will be packing light, with a backpack and carryon only..

Boots, tennies, jeans, dress, jacket, layering tops enough??

what%26#39;s in fashion there right now? I hate to stick out like a tourist, although, I think my camera will give me away!

lauren -

I too am going to paris for 7 days and am definitely taking a day trip to Versailles - I%26#39;m told it can take about 9 hours to see everything - including the castle, the gardens, etc, and apparently Versailles has a really great market three days a week.

Also, it is worth noting that if you are planning on buying the paris museum pass, it can be used for entrance to Versailles:

Lauren- someone posted a great trip report on seeing Versailles not that long ago so check in the search box and Website www.chateauversailles.fr

(closed on Monday).

take a RER %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne train (there are trains for other %26#39;C%26#39; lignes that also stop at these stations) that is heading in the direction of Versailles-Rive Gauche...any %26#39;C%26#39; ligne train with a four-letter, %26#39;V xxx%26#39; designation. These %26#39;C-5%26#39; ligne trains run on a frequency of approx. 1-every-15-minutes during most of the day and evening.

The stroll from the VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche RER station, up to the gates of Chateau de Versailles add another 8-10 mins to the trip.

You simply ask for a ticket to VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche. The one-way fare from Paris to VERSAILLES-Rive Gauche (located out in Transportation Zone 4) is 2,90€, the round-trip fare is 5,80€.
