Did you like it?

Is Eze worth the trip?

|||

I thought so. I got the train to Eze and walked up the Nietzsche path. At the top you can visit a scent factory and go round the botanic gardens and look at the view. If you don%26#39;t fancy a steep walk you get the bus from Nice rather than the train.

It depends on what you are looking for.

Eze village is a beautiful perched village with all the houses restored to a chocolate box level of niceness and visible good taste. Like most perched villages the streets are steep ,twisty , with slippy cobbles so not ideal for folk with mobility problems or pushing pushchairs

There are no normal shops within the town walls, just art galleries, trinket shops and jewellery shops etc though not cheap souvenir shops and a couple of cafes and expensive restaurants -though there are other shops , little supermarket etc near the bus stop and car parks.

I don%26#39;t think i%26#39;ve gone there with anyone who hasn%26#39;t liked Eze village -though some folk prefer st paul de vence to Eze once they have been to both . I personally prefer Eze village to St Paul de vence

dmey: When are you traveling; how long do you have in the area; and where will be your base?

I have been to both Eze and St. Paul de Vence, and I keep returning to St. Paul. I think it%26#39;s that I find the art galleries, shops and restaurants more interesting there. If you are on a cruise, however, Eze is usually a more practical destination from where most ships seem to dock.

Both villages offer spectacular views from their peaks, and both are well worth visiting if you have the time. As with any tourist destination, how much you enjoy a site might depend upon the season. I am lucky enough to travel in the off season, and things are probably a bit more tranquil in St. Paul than they are during the summer months. I understand that the gardens at the top of Eze are especially beautiful during the summer, but I%26#39;ve missed that experience as the plants are going dormant when I travel. There are hiking trails to the top of Eze, and several posters have described their trek as having been quite memorable and meaningful.

Whether you would enjoy a trip to either village really depends upon where your interests lie. I hope you have a great trip!

My daughter %26amp; I are arriving Cannes by cruise ship and would like to do a side trip. I%26#39;m having a difficulties figuring out the best way to get to Eze from Cannes (bus or train). As a last resort the cruise line offers a shore excursion to Monaco %26amp; Eze, but I really dislike traveling in a group, I like setting my own pace. I appreciate your input.

Thanks again!

what day/date are you arriving?

|||

St. Paul de Vence is closer to Cannes than Eze, but either can be an easy day trip. I have traveled to both via a train and bus route from Cannes. I wouldn%26#39;t try to do both in one day, but your idea of Eze from your Monaco stop sounds feasible. I have visited both (one day at a time!), leaving Cannes by train around 11:00 am and returning between 6:00 and 7:00 pm.

Let me know it you need directions on how to visit either by public transportation. How long do you have in Cannes before your ship sails and when are you traveling?

|||

We are arriving Cannes on Sat, 6/06/09. We will be anchored from 7a - 3p. I would really like to see Eze, but if St Paul would be an easier commute that could work as well. Thanks for your help!

by public transport from cannes is quite similar to both villages - basically its train then bus. Its a longer train journey to eze bord de mer but the bus part of the trip is around the same length

for st paul de vence

You will need to take a train from cannes to cagnes sur mer train station then take the bus 400 to st paul de vence

www.cg06.fr/transport/lignes-tam/400.pdf

After st paul you could then take the bus to vence which is also very pretty in the mediaeval section and less touristy then the 400 back to the cagnes sur mer for the train back to cannes

for eze village

Take the train from cannes to eze bord de mer train station and take ligne d%26#39;azur bus 83 to Eze village [or alternatively you could walk up Nietzsche%26#39;s path]

after Eze if you wanted to extend the day trip you could take the bus 112 to monaco and go back to cannes from monaco train station or take the 82 or 112 back to nice and see a bit of Nice before taking the train back to cannes.

The problem with having to take a train and a bus to a destination is that the wait time between your arrival on one and departure on another can be as long as 45 minutes and as short as only a few minutes. To make sure you make it back to your ship in time, I would allow at least an extra hour for your return journey than it took for your outgoing travel.

The bus stop from the Eze train station is easy to find. Once you are outside the train station, you will go up a hill to a roadside stop. The return stop is obvious. There is a large parking area before the entrance to the village, and the bus stop is clearly in the center.

The Cagnes sur Mer stop is a little trickier. When you come out of the train station, go to your right trough a covered parking area. Once you reach the sidewalk, you will go up an incline and across an overpass. You will see a park on your right, and the bus stop is across the street. You will get off the bus for St. Paul de Vence at the post office, and the return stop is on the other side. The stop for the train station is on the edge of the covered parking area.

From what I remember, it took me a little longer to get to Eze, but not enough for it to make that much difference. If you really want to the visit Eze, I would do it! I would just go directly to the top upon your arrival and shop on your way down.

Eze is one of my favorite places on earth. The view from the top is simply heaven. If you can, have lunch on the terrace at the Chateau de la Chevre d%26#39;Or and enjoy the view. Based on everything that others have said about the train/bus schedules to Eze, it might make sense to go with the ship%26#39;s tour and be certain that you will be back on time.

I hope you enjoy your trip.
