good towns to stay along coast with kids

are there any places to stay along the coast--not too interested in french riviera crowds--but further west, Toulon, etc. We have 2 boys and looking for some interesting places not crazy with tourists. Is this possible? Thanks!

Hi, 2 years ago myself, son %26amp; his family stayed at Cavaliere Sur Mer, I think one of the most beautfiful, clean beaches, this is 17K from St Tropez in the direction of Toulon. We are staying there again at the end of Aug. There are a lot of rentals in the area, though it is getting late to book. There is also a wonderful marina for boat trips, and the town has a lively center for shopping.

I love Hyeres, which has its own small airport about five miles from the town, see www.hyeres-tourisme.com

There%26#39;s a mediaeval town, then you can get the bus along the Giens peninsula, five miles of sandy beaches, or take the boat at the end from Tour Fondue to the ile de Porquerolles. I can also thoroughly recommend Cassis, which is near Marseille see www.ot-cassis.com Cassis and Hyeres both have train stations but Hyeres%26#39; is in the town (about 20 mins walk from the mediaeval town centre) while Cassis%26#39; is a couple of miles from the town. It has to be said that both places are very popular with French people in summer so are always very very busy, but the Giens peninsula is so long that there is space for everyone.

Please be careful with spellings. Cavalaire-sur-Mer has a marina but Cavaliere does not. I assume you mean the former. I had a house there for 16 years and it is a very popular French resort with many families. It is a year round town and has many permanent residents, so it does not just come to life for summer. If you hear an American accent it makes you turn round so not touristy but you will hear English and Dutch, many of whom own second homes there.
