Gite for 7 people accessible to Disney Paris

We are hoping to bring the Grandchildren next year (2010) to Disneyland, Paris. We would like to stay in a gite in the country and do not mind catching a train to Disney. We are unfamiliar with the area and dont know where best to stay for the best of both worlds. We usually stay in a gite in the Dordogne area, but this time thought it would be something different. Is there a gite that will sleep 7 people where we can either catch a train or a bus into Disney in a reasonable time? Or somewhere close to Disney where we can stay. We would also like to take them into Paris one day. I have tried looking on the internet but do not know the names of the areas where the train would stop en route.

The gite should be no real problem. I have stayed in chambres d%26#39;hotes in the area so checking the normal resources should yield good results:

The difficulty will be public transportation.

Marne-la-Vallée does not have rail links (with the exclusion of the TGV lines) in any direction other than to Paris (RER A). There are rail lines to destinations farther out but connecting to the RER A line will require doing so a some tie-in point near Paris.

The bus lines of which I am familiar are specialized routes: VEA to the aeroports or ParisVision. There might be a few local networks but without knowing where exactly you might be staying, these will be difficult to summarize.

You might consider an apartment in Paris as an option or renting a suitable vehicle in which to transport your family.

As you consolidate your ideas and plans, I recommend your investigating Provins as a interesting destination for your family. In summer there are buses linking Disney to Provin.

Sarastro, some fine-tuning is in order....

Marne-la-Vallee is NOT a town of its own accord -- it%26#39;s an area of small villages surrounding DLP.

There ARE rail connections nearby -- approximately along the D934 which runs along the northern edge of Disney property.

BUT -- you are correct, the connections to the RER line can be difficult at best.

(The RER-E connects to Chelles, which is about 15km from Disney. Chelles is also along the SNCF lines mentioned above, as are Lagny-sur-Marne, Esbly, and numerous other small cities and towns)

There is a bus line -- www.buspeps.fr

Driving your own car is definitely the easiest way to get around the region -- it%26#39;s pretty rural and quiet, and mass transit just isn%26#39;t feasible sometimes.

Oh, forgot to mention (Edit function would be SOOO nice!)

Go to www.mappy.com and enter Chessy (Ile de France) -- it will give you a map that will give you the names of some of the surrounding towns so you can get your bearings.

You can also go to www.tourism77.co.uk -- it%26#39;s the official Office of Tourisme site for the Seine-et-Marne department -- there%26#39;s a big listing of lodgings available there, too.

Thank you so much that is very helpful. The other thing I thought we could do is stay somewhere near Caen and get the SNFC train into Disney, I see that it only takes two hours. Would that be an option?

Not logically -- not only because Caen is roughly the other side of Paris from Disney -- but because it%26#39;s 2 hours on the train -- that%26#39;s 2 hours in the morning with grandkids who didn%26#39;t really want to get up early enough to be there when the gates open, and 2 hours in the evening with kids who are completely spent -- physically from walking around all day, and mentally from all the excitement.

If you%26#39;re going to Disney, then stay close to Disney and catch the RER-A into Paris for a day or two.
