Honeymoon Sep-29 to Oct 12 France to Germany to Italy

My soon to be wife and I will be traveling to Europe for our honeymoon towards the end of September.

Here is our plan:

-Buy a roundtrip ticket to Paris, France stay in Paris for 24 hours

-Next, taking the train to Germany for Oktoberfest. We would like to stay in Germany for 2-3 days.

-Next, taking a train to Italy and stay in Italy for about 3-4 days.

-Lastly, taking a train back to France and spending our remaining time in France.

We have a few questions before we get to booking our flight.

-How long is a train ride from Paris to Munich?

-How long is a train ride from Munich to Venice?

-How long is a train ride from Rome to Monaco?

-When train tickets are purchased, how long are they good for?

-As we are unsure how long we are going to be staying in each country, what would be the best way to book our hotel rooms?

Any other helpful information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

There are two websites which you%26#39;ll find useful for planning:

http://www.seat61.com/ for lots of info about travelling by train in Europe and

reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en… for European timetables and some ticket prices.

I know this is a first draft of an itinerary, but it%26#39;s very full - it looks like a student backpack trip with lots of time on trains and not a lot of time exploring destinations .....

Thank you for your response. We are going to travel by train at night the majority of the time, do you think this would cut back on any travel time?

There%26#39;s pros and cons to overnight train travel - as you say, in its favour you travel while you%26#39;re sleeping, so you don%26#39;t miss exploring time in towns, and you also save the cost of an hotel room for the night.

Against? It depends if you can sleep on trains - if you can%26#39;t, the next day isn%26#39;t enjoyable. Sleeping is couchettes and you pay extra if you want privacy/security. Luggage logistics can be annoying if you check out of your hotel after breakfast and don%26#39;t board the train until evening, then the next hotel isn%26#39;t ready when you arrive the following morning. I%26#39;m not sure of bathroom arrangements .....

That%26#39;s the jaundiced view ;-) actually, I love trains and would choose to travel in the daytime to see the scenery.

A couple of other things to think about - if you%26#39;ve a long flight from the US, you may be jet-lagged and 24 hours in Paris isn%26#39;t long to recover - perhaps spend your %26#39;France%26#39; time here and get a flight back to the US from Rome?

Enjoy the planning!
