Flea Markets and Live Music

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I are staying near Aix for 4 days in late May.

We have heard that Marseille has a lively African cultural scene and would love to try to see some music on the Saturday night we are there? Which area of Marseille is this and how can we find out info aabout bars/venues?

Also, we are lovers of second hand CLOTHING markets...is there one of these Marseille? I have found a number of different Puces but finding hard to diferentiate which are when and what they sell!

Your best bet is to look towards the Cours Julien. There is a place for off beat concerts and shows: The Espace Julien.

concertandco.com/lieu/…salle-concert-42.htm

This gives concerts and dates. The Cours Julien is THE place for the non-scene scene for everything: music, food, cafes, clothes,...

The website is only in French.

I read that there is a gigantic vintage market every year but it is in June. Called Massalia Vintage. What you are looking for in French is %26quot;fripe%26quot; meaning vintage or second hand and stores called %26quot;friperie%26quot;.

To get you started:

Michigan

10, rue Pisançon (1er)

Timomo

17, rue Bussy l%26#39;Indien (6°)

Lollipop Music Store

2, bvd Théodore Thurner (6°)

Roots

bvd de la Corderie (7°)

Kaleïdoscope

3, rue des 3 mages (1er)

Sabre-Tooth

19, rue des 3 mages (1er)

Tola-Tola

38, rue des 3 mages (1er)

Dharma

186, rue du Paradis (6°)

Cours Julien obviously will have some too.

Happy hunting!
