Nice to Rome

Hi folks,

Does anybody know if i can get a train from Nice to Rome overnight (or early morning) and how long it would take? Would be landing in Nice about 23.00 and would need to be in Rome by 2.00pm next day?

Thanks in advance

You can%26#39;t do it. Though it%26#39;s a near miss.

There is no overnight train. The first possible departure leaves Nice at 05.16 for Ventimiglia, where you pick up a direct train to Rome which arrives at 14.14.

|||

That train arrives at Roma Termini at 14.14. However it does stop beforehand, at 14.00 at Roma Ostiense station, which is 10 kilometres from the Stadio Olympico (Termini is 7.5). Ostiense is a much smaller station and easier to get out of and into a taxi.

But bear in mind that a train that has done a 7.5 hour journey isn%26#39;t necessarily going to arrive on time.

There are plenty of cheap flights between Nice and Rome and it only takes about 30 mins.

The only cheap flights I know about are blu-express, and they don%26#39;t fly on Saturdays. Maybe there%26#39;s another airline? A Nice-Rome Alitalia flight on May 23 will cost you £480 one way.

If you are going to be forced down the two flights route to get to the final, routes from Manchester, Liverpool or Leeds worth investigating could be Easyjet via Geneva or Paris Orly, or Jet2/Ryanair via Milan Bergamo.

Anyway, you%26#39;ll probably manage to get a direct flight to Rome or Pisa.

Perilizia,

Thanks for that advice my friend. Another option we are considering is to hire a car for 3 days. Pick up at Nice Airport and then drive down to Rome. Am i right in saying Nice and Rome are about 300 miles apart, how long do you think we would need?

Thanks in advance

Might be 300 miles in a straight line, but it%26#39;s about 450 miles by road. I think it%26#39;d take about seven hours plus however long you stop on the way. See http://www.viamichelin.com/ for route and tolls.

There was another cheap airline, by the way, Meridiana - but that%26#39;s sold out for the 23rd.

Driving to Rome is perfectly feasible but as Perilizia mentioned it%26#39;s roughly 450 miles (not 300). Another site you can check for itineraries is www.mappy.fr

The estimated driving time from Nice to Rome is 7h20, but you have to bear in mind that most Italian motorways only have 2 lanes and traffic can be heavy over the week-end (we just drove to Florence which in theory should only take 4h30, but it actually took us 6 hours).

Another consideration is that, if you hire a car in France and drop off in Italy, there will be a relocation fee of several hundred euros.
