Day Trip to Versailles- a la Train

My sister and I will be staying in London come June and have been toying with the idea of doing a daytrip to France, particularly Versailles. I know that there are trains from Paris to Versailles and trains from London to Paris, is there any way we can get to Versailles with out going through Paris?

Also, is it worth spending only one day at the Palace and gardens?

Hi , I can%26#39;t go into train details , as I am not sure, but, I %26quot;think%26quot; you will definately have to take the train( Eurostar) into Paris and then you must switch to the RER ( suburban train system) line C to get to Versailles. To get from Gare Du Nord( where Eurostar line arrrives) to RER line C,, it seems like you will have to take the metro to St Michel station.

Is it worth it,, only you can say,, personally I love going to Versailles, and have gone many times, so perhaps my answer will be biased.

Moneywise, you have left it a bit late to get cheapest fares to Paris, Eurostar offers cheapest fares at first, then as date comes closer rates go up.. but, still go on eurostar site and play with a few different dates and times and see if you can still get a cheap ticket( mine for July was 70 euros return) and the RER to Versailles is only 5.90 euros return. You should go online and buy the Versailles pass ahead of time so you can skip the horrendus lines at Palace too.

Thanks very much, I%26#39;ll definatly look up tickets online ahead of time!

The least expensive Eurostar fares, for the most popular times, do sell out ahead of time, but you still have plenty of time...it%26#39;s under 30 days and closer that the fares go up and up.

You can purchase tickets on Rick Steves%26#39; website - he%26#39;s usually got the best prices, as of the date you%26#39;re booking. And, the booking process is simple with clear instructions for ticketing and traveling.

You can definitely see plenty of Chateau Versailles with one full day. For many, half a day is enough.

RailEurope usually adds a substantial fee to the actual ticket price. Be sure to compare its price with the price on the operator%26#39;s web site: www.eurostar.com
