calais restaurants

Does anyone have any good tips of a good french restaurant preferably outside of Calais to stop for a good lunch on a daytrip to Calais?

Hi bobbieblue,

I know you%26#39;re looking for suggestions outside Calais, but, for what it%26#39;s worth, we had a very nice lunch on Saturday at The Cote D%26#39;Argent restaurant in Calais. It%26#39;s right opposite the beach, very near to the port, so it%26#39;s handy if time is tight. The restaurant is a bit %26quot;Anglified%26quot; due to the location but the menu is French and the service is good. There is a map, plus menus, on their website at www.cotedargent.com.

I%26#39;m sure other posters will come up with more suggestions!

Is a nice little family owned restaurant in Sangatte 7kms from Calais, if nice a walk on the beach after (25mtrs away) it%26#39;s called the Cap Blanc Nez, close enough to Calais %26amp; Cité d%26#39;Europe but away from the crowds.

Drive to Wimereux and go to the Hotel Atalntic. Restaurant called Le Liegoise. Superb fish. Ask for table next to the window.

%26quot;Sole Meuniere%26quot; (Just opposite the Holiday Inn)is excellent but not cheap. They also own %26#39;La Mer%26#39; opposite, a bit more down market but still good food.

We usually eat in the Restaurant Cap Blanc Nez at Sangatte and it is always enjoyable. Unfortunately they are closed on Sundays, and we are going next Sunday for the day, so can anyone suggest somewhere that is not to far away from Auchan in Coquelles and maybe around the Sangatte area. We like typical french restaurants but not everyone in our party of 8 likes fish. Any recommendations please? Thanks

I wouldn%26#39;t like to dampen anyones desire to reply to this thread but the original posting was two and a half years ago.

Keith Chesterfield - your point being? Do they not have restaurants in and around calais anymore, and don%26#39;t people read past postings then? Don%26#39;t really think it matters how long ago the original posting was! You obviously read it and replied, so why wouldn%26#39;t anyone else.

Our favourite Calais restaurant, La Pléiade, has unfortunately closed, but we found another one this month that gave us a good send-off from France for another year: Le Détroit, 7 Boulevard de la Résistance.

It%26#39;s in the same block as the more famous (or at least more advertised) Sole Meunière and Le Channel, but the menus are more flexible and also more reasonably priced. I had moules farcies (stuffed mussels) folowed by sole meunière and mousse au chocolat (21€ menu), while my wife tackled the 27€ plateau de fruits de mer. It was all excellent, and we shall be back next year.

Parking is easy either outside the restaurant or down the street at the side.

I had lunch at Le Detroit yesterday and I think we were the only daytrippers there, the other customers seemed to be locals. The service was very good and they provided an english menu. The food was nicely presented and we enjoyed our dining experience. It may cost a tiny bit more than some of the other restaurants in the main street but was well worth it.
