Village on the coast to rent an apartment

Hello,

We are planning a week long trip to French Riviera later this year or next year. We wish to see the %26quot;hot spots%26quot; like Cannes, Monte Carlo, etc., but would really prefer to rent an apartment somewhere outside crowded places as a base.

We will rent a car.

Could somebody recommend a nice small village on the coast we could look for an apartment?

Budget is an issue, but we are not looking for something extremely cheap, since we appreciate comfort:-)

Thank you very much in advance!

Hello,

It really depends how far from Cannes and Monte Carlo you want to be.

Since you will have a vehicle and distances are not that great, you might get a bit away from the %26quot;hot spot%26quot; for lodging and go there to visit etc...urter Cassis is a great village approximately 1 1/2 to 2 h from Cannes but will be cheaper than being towards Cannes. In high season you can rent self catering appartments for about 600€/week for a studio to a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment for around 1000€/week. There are many rental agencies you just have to type %26quot;agence immobiliere cassis%26quot; in your browser; most have an English version, or try www.castellas-immobilier.com; www.inprovence.webs.com; www.cassis-immobilier.com;www.agencefalque.fr.

Theoule-sur-Mer could be a very good option closer to Cannes and Nice, less cement than most places, on the edge of the natural preserve of l%26#39;Esterel. Might be pricy.

Hyeres might suit you, it%26#39;s a town rather than a village, but spread out. There%26#39;s a five mile peninsula with sandy beaches either side, and a mediaval town centre, a ruined castle, saltpans where you see flamingoes if you%26#39;re lucky, and idyllic islands to take a boat to. see www.hyeres-tourisme.fr. I would guess it%26#39;s about 1.5-2 hours%26#39; drive from Nice. Cassis is lovely, but near Marseille rather than Nice and probably about 2.5 hours%26#39; drive.

There aren%26#39;t that many places on the coast that don%26#39;t get crowded in summer. Even the inland villages and towns near Cannes and Monaco such as Mougins, Biot, Valbonne, Gourdon, Vence get busy. Last year we rented an apartment in Antibes in the old part of town and enjoyed it. It is an easy town to walk around, right on the coast, has good restaurants, an excellent daily covered market and is 20 mins from Nice and about the same to Cannes.

We stayed in a modern 2 bedroom apartment with secure underground parking at 700 - 1000 euro per week depending on the season.

You do not say when you will be travelling -it makes a difference. If you have a car then try for somewhere between Ste Maxime and Le Lavandou. There are no train stations to that region so the only public transport is bus which means that it is a little harder to access. Plus the beaches are great.

Thank you very much for your prompt and informative replies and advice! They all are really appreciated.

Regarding the season we plan to travel - I need advice as well. We don%26#39;t want to travle in winter, but still would prefer sometime not so touristy. What is %26quot;summer%26quot; on French Riviera? Is it May-September or wider? We would prefer to travel April-May or September.

Price range 700-1000 euro is ok.

Thanks again and in advance!

The really busy two months are July and August so just avoid them. Personally I like June as you have the long light evenings and the weather is warming up all the time.

|||

I was just thinking about late May early June. Thanks! I will keep that in mind!

|||

June is good. In September the water is warmer but the bars and restaurants have had their busy months and are becoming tired and it seems to be the bargain coach tour season.

|||

So, it will be June then.

If someone can recommend some specific property, I would really appreciate. There is so much information on the Internet, that I get a bit confused.

We stayed here for ten days last Christmas. It%26#39;s just outside Grasse, on the road to Cabris, and has a variety of apartments to accommodate various group sizes. We would go back but we%26#39;re biased towards this area.
