port or old town?

Looking at renting an apartment with nice pebbles in either the port area or old town. Has anyone had any experiences with nice pebbles and which area should I go for?

Thanks

Someone i met recently has stayed in several Nice Pebbles places and couldn%26#39;t praise the company highly enough.

The old town is noisy all year round due to the tall buildings and narrow lanes that run between. There are also many late bars and clubs in the old town and people shriek and laugh and don%26#39;t moderate their voices on their way home.

However it is fabulously atmospheric , like living in history as the houses are far far older than any in Australia or the US

The port area can be noisy with traffic, especially when the ferries are leaving/arriving for Corsica.

There are some quiet spots in the old town, and very little traffic noise. Also, the buildings tend not to have lifts, so you may need to walk up several flights of stairs to get to your apartment.

I think I%26#39;d probably go for the old town tho%26#39;.

Have used Nice Pebbles last year and Go-nice.com last year and also this year, both companies very safe and professional. Also have a look at area around carre d%26#39;or - everything is within easy stroll distance- especially at night.

So is around Rue Pastorelli okay?

Thanks

Yes, rue Pastorelli is fine. One end meets avenue Jean Medecin, the main shopping street down which the tram runs. There%26#39;s a new block of apartments being built a little way along. Generally lots of business activity during the day and quiet at night. Within 5 minutes walk of just about everything, the sea, the old town, the railway station, the bus station, the pedestrian area.

Thank you :)

Just left Nice today after 9 days in the Port district. We walked all over Nice including hours in the Old Town and were so glad we picked this district. Close to everything including gare routiere and many bus connections. Lots of restaurants and shops but much less tourist shops than the old town and less noisey and crowded even though we were there for 2 holidays with many French folks walking through the Port. I bring ear plugs expecting noise in cities and was not bothered. Today was our last day and we sat down on the quai watching a group of guys unload their sardine catch and then a group of young restaurant workers load some up for a local restaurant, watched a cleaning service scrub down a gorgeous yacht %26quot;The Fortunate Sun%26quot; and watched the loading of supplies on the 4 masted %26quot;Sea Cloud%26quot; which was leaving at 6pn too late for us to see her. We were lucky enough to have a view of the Port and comings and goings. Although we liked the area around Rue Pastorelli and liked to visit the Old Town, if you have a handle on a good apartnment in the Port, go for it!
