Paris to Nice by TVG

We%26#39;re considering travelling to Nice by Eurostar in September which includes a train journey on the TVG from Paris. Does anyone know what the route is from Paris to Nice? I know how long it takes about but would like to know what places we%26#39;ll pass through en route.

Thanks, Linda

The TGV runs non stop on a special line between Paris and Avignon and, so far as I can remember, doesn%26#39;t go through anywhere. It is much slower after that as it wends its way along the coast, going through places such as Marseilles, Aix and Cannes.

You leave the Gare de Lyon in Paris and once out of town race along at a wonderful clip. The train follows the Rhone Valley and parallels the autoroute for long stretches. The only way I could tell where we were was by spotting autoroute signs.

Once you %26#39;turn the corner%26#39; at Aix en Province it slows right down to normal train speeds. The trip takes about 5 and a half hours.

We traveled in first class because it only cost about 10 euros more than 2nd. Most people feel 2nd is fine. Get tickets at tgv.com 90 days ahead for the best prices.

Try to arrange things so you sit on the right side of the train ... you%26#39;ll get better views along the Mediterranean. And take some food and drink. What%26#39;s available on the train is pricey and not up to much.

Here%26#39;s a link to a map:

As has been said until you get to the outskirts of Marseille the TGV line avoids gong through towns, where there are stations they tend to be quite a distance from the towns they serve. Before you get to the Rhone Valley, you will be passing through the hills of western Burgundy. It is very attractive and at one point you pass close to the impressive ruins of Cluny Abbey (between the sations of Le Creusot-Montceau-Montchanin and Macon-Loche).
