Car hire at CDG Airport in Paris

We are thinking of renting a car at Charles DeGaule Airport in September 2009 and immediately driving to Beauvais. I was wondering if driving from CDG airport is congested and confusing?

Driving from CDG is straight forward. Reaching Beauvais should be a simple affair. Print out a map from either www.viamichelin.com or mappy.com and carry it with you.

Might I strongly recommend that you purchase a Michelin road map before you go and familiarise yourself with the route--as someone else has remarked, it%26#39;s not difficult to get out of C de G but it makes you more relaxed if you know where you%26#39;re going! You can get these in many good bookshops that have travel sections, and if they don%26#39;t have the number you want, most would order it in for you. There%26#39;s two possibilities: map no. 237 Ile-de-France, which is yellow, or no. 106 Environs of Paris, which is green. This last one is a large scale,(so very clear to follow), and Beauvais is just a little off the map, but would be very useful. Michelin are the very best maps available. We%26#39;ve used them regularly since 1975 and wouldn%26#39;t travel in France (or anywhere else they cover) without them. The competition doesn%26#39;t even come close. In France the Mich. maps cost about 4 - 5 Euros and are worth every cent.

Thank you very much for the advice. I will definetly get one of those Michelin maps. I was also wondering if a GPS works prperly in Europe. I%26#39;ve heard some people having problems.

The GPS problems I%26#39;ve heard of have been within the GPS unit itself. If you have a unit that you want to take with you, remember to input the proper maps.

Most of us advise that you not get in a car immediately upon arrival and drive anywhere after your long flight - unless you%26#39;re one of those people who can sleep soundly for several hours on a plane. It%26#39;s pretty straight forward to get to most places from CDG, but French drivers are quite aggressive if there%26#39;s any congestion, and you need to have your wits about you, and your reflexes in high gear.
