Where to stay in a villa?

Hi,

We are 4 - 6 girls looking to rent a villa on Corsica for 1 week in August.

Unfortunately our research into the areas isn%26#39;t going so well and we can%26#39;t narrow it down! Basically we%26#39;re just looking for somewhere within walking distance to a good beach and restaurants and hopefully the hire car will allow us to discover the rest of the island...

Could anyone recommend a good area to base ourselves in?

Also I%26#39;m having a little difficulty trying to figure out the ferries between Sardinia and Corsica - are they that common?? And where do they go to and from?

Many thanks

The SE part of the island has gorgeous Caribbean style sandy beaches but IMO is rather built up. You can drive up into the mountains from there.

The |SW part is quieter but still has lovely beaches.

The NE has wonderful rocky beaches, as does Cap Corse.

I%26#39;d get a reliable guidebook like the Rough Guide and read it carefully.

It will take you far, far longer than you think to explore the island, as the interior roads are tiny and scary. It%26#39;s worth it though.

The LHS of the island is more French and the RHS is more Italian.

The ferry from Sardinia is the most sickmaking boat ride I have ever had. I nearly didn%26#39;t go back, it was so terrible. Our first action on landing was to buy travel sickness pills, and we spent the rest of our time dreading the return.

sorry to be a bit brief but having terrible problems with my computer..

ferries go between santa theresa and bonifacio, take an hour, can be rough or cancelled, several a day. Also more infrequently, much longer crossing, bigger boats, from Porto Torres to Propriano. Not worth considering unless you%26#39;re stuck at Santa Theresa or Bonifacio because of bad weather and in a hurry.

Walking to a beach and restaurants... must be somewhere in SE, probably harder in SW, or certainly in the Balagne (NW)but this may be too far north for you.
